News You Might Have Missed

The only reason I heard about the IMO results is because Mom is hooked up with the New York State retired teachers gossip network. Yes, it’s true, your former teachers get together and play bridge and talk about you (and everything else).

A little over two weeks ago the International Mathematical Olympiad ended in Athens, Greece. This is premier competition for high school math students. The United States came in second. Alison Miller (from upstate NY) was the second female ever on the US team and the first US female to win a gold medal. However, Mom tells me that word on the street is that she is home-schooled: the New York State public schools can not take credit for this success.
