Quantity

Normally I don't read Crooked Timber. I've just noticed this mention and discussion (from yesterday) of the number system of the Piraha tribe — or more specifically the lack thereof. I'm going to talk about it in class on Friday.

Yesterday in one of my classes I tried to convince my students that the set {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... } and the set {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ... } both have the same number of elements. They're still skeptical.
