Group Work

Yes, I'm using group work on the second day. (I used it on the first, too! I'll be using it on the third and the fourth as well.) Mostly this is so that my students will be able to form reasonably functional homework groups -- I make them work with different people each time.

But today I used the most amazing technique to keep my students on task. As I gave the directions, I added: "Your group will choose one person to be the writer and one person to be the explainer. Once your group has finished all the problems, the writer will put your solution to one of the problems on the board. During the last 10 minutes of class, the explainers will explain their groups' solutions to the class."

None of the groups "finished early."
