Disconnected Bits

  1. Expect most posts in the near future to have a list structure. This parallels the list-making urge that accompanies the start of the semester.

  2. This afternoon I am trying another unfamiliar stylist in hopes of solving my hair problems. Wish me luck.

  3. My knitting group meets at the bad bakery not too far from campus. I swear, it's the place to see and be seen if you are in math or computer science. Every time I'm there I see someone I know. Last night I saw the professor from the cs class that I sat in on in the spring. He probably recognized me too. I pretended not to see him.

  4. In two hours I knit 1" of sock. Ack. It's 1x1 ribbing, twisting every stitch, but STILL. Argh.

  5. A reader sent me a link to The Daily SuDoku. It has taken over my life. More on this later. I'm currently pondering what distinguishes a "hard" puzzle from a "very hard" one. The difference between a medium and a hard (I think) is that in a medium, the value of an empty square never depends on the values of other empty squares outside of its row/column/region. (This means that I can do a medium without writing notes to myself.)

  6. Now that my honors class has been cancelled and my schedule rearranged (twice), I am no longer obsessing about that. Instead I am obsessing about how the schedule has not properly updated on the online system. If all goes well, I will be done teaching at 10am every day.
