Awkward Moments

At the grocery store. In the evening when it was fairly empty. I ran into a former student. I couldn't remember his name or which class he had been in, but I did remember that he had cried in my office after a midterm. We pretended not to recognize each other.

At the cafe. The woman who waited on me is my neighbor from across the street. They've lived there for a year, but I still don't know her name.

While running errands on campus and around town, I end up seeing not one, not two, but three secret crushes. Politeness demanded friendly small talk in all three cases.
