Update from the Gym

  1. At some point he asked me for stories from the gym.

  2. I've been going almost every day. About once a week I was working with a trainer. I've gone to a yoga class twice, but both times there were substitutes instead of the regular yoga teacher, so I'm still not sure if I like the class. I've tried to make an attempt at lifting, but I feel so clueless that I tend to give up quickly. I probably should make another appointment with the trainer.

  3. When I joined I didn't expect this to happen, but my default activity has become walking on the treadmill. I know, I know, just like a girl.

  4. Somewhat alarmingly, I bought a scale. I thought that I had kicked the scale habit. So far so good, I am not obsessing (at least not too much). I am sort of freaked out that I am at my highest weight in almost 10 years, in the low 120s. This means that I've gained almost 20 pounds in the past five years. Bad news: Since buying the scale and going to the gym I haven't lost any weight. Good news: I'm still eating!

  5. By the cardio machines is a bank of televisions showing such fine fare as the country music channel, ESPN, and Fox News. The sound is off (can use headphones), but you can usually tell what's going on -- especially on Fox News with its crawl and all that. The other day I was walking on the treadmill and there was a couple there together, and he was complaining to her about all the assorted nonsense on Fox News and its coverage of the war in Iraq, the Bush administration, etc. She said that they could move to the other side of the room or change the channel. His reply: "It's OK. It keeps my heart rate up."
