Talking About Buying a Car

He said that it was embarrassing to drive a 13-year-old Honda Civic.

I pointed out that earlier that day he had mocked someone we know for driving too flashy of a car.

He reframed his point: reliability, safety, these were the main concerns. Plus, Homeless Relative might be looking to replace his car (the hood latch is broken, so he wants to get rid of it) and might be willing to buy the Civic.

I lobbied for a used Mercedes. Or maybe for a barely used Civic.

He found out how much these would cost him and decided that it might be worth hanging on to the 13-year-old Civic.
