House Party
I'm getting ready to leave the house for a work/social event.
Due to the fact that I work on a dry campus, we have the same options that the undergrads do if we want to serve alcohol at our event: We can be very sneaky and hope not to get caught on campus (works better for undergrads than for faculty) or we can take our party off campus. Thus, I will be heading to the home of a faculty member who was gracious enough to host this event.
This is in sharp contrast with two jobs ago, where they served wine at faculty meetings.
I can't help but wonder what forcing parties off campus does for the sense of campus community.
The advantage for me this afternoon is that the off-campus location is within walking distance of my house, so I don't have to worry about driving home after a few glasses of wine.
We shall see how this event goes. Anyone willing to take bets and whether I end up talking exclusively to people who I already know?
