Roller Derby!
Somehow I seem to have made friends with someone much cooler and hipper than myself. Last night The Librarian rounded up a bunch of friends and we headed out into the sticks (OK, that's an exaggeration: how about "the community near the airport that is rumored to have good public schools"?) and went to see an inter-league roller derby game between the local all-stars (taken from our three local teams) and a team from the state capital.
At first roller derby reminded me of hockey, in the sense that there was a lot of action, but I had no idea what the rules were. Then someone explained it to me, and it kind of made sense, and you could actually follow the game.
Too bad I didn't bring my camera, as there is an entire esthetic and pagentry tied up in roller derby.
The bunch of us who went have decided that we will need to either be invited to a Halloween party this year or else throw our own so that we can dress up as a roller derby team.
