Your Number May Be Up
My inside sources tell me that the department administration is considering putting a limit on the number of years that graduate students receive funding. It's not so much a money-saving move but more along the lines of a bird pushing the fledglings out of the nest. Hearing about this plan, I went to the super-secret document that lays out the general rules: the Graduate Catalog (published annually by the university and disseminated widely to languish on bookshelves). Seems that there are already rules in place at the university level. Let's just say that they might spell bad news for the grad student who is working on year #9 (with funding!) of the masters degree.
