Third Time's the Charm

As a surprise to no one reading this, I've earned my first A ever in a computer science class. Of course since it was pretty mathy, it might not count. I'm taking a programming class in the fall, so we'll see what happens then.

My Fall-08-self will probably have a few advantages over my past-self. For one, my best friend from high school killed herself during the first week of the Spring '92 term, which didn't help my academic performance. (However, unlike my students, I didn't tell my professors in hopes of pity.) Also, I was a stupid undergrad back then. My goal was to complete the assignment in the minimum time possible; frequently I wouldn't start programming assignments until very few hours before they were due. Not because I was a lazy procrastinator, just to make more a game out of it.

Now that I'm just taking courses merely because I feel like it and to learn something (and I am incapable of doing anything with free time other than wasting it and feeling stupid about being unproductive), the motivations are different. But more on that some other time.
