Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

Someone else's section of gen-ed math meets in the same room as mine in the class period before. His class ran over a few minutes, and one of my students got there a few minutes early and ran into one of her friends. They had a brief conversation of the "Oh, you're also taking the lowest numbered math class that counts towards the graduation requirements?" and my student was all, "Yeah, I can't do math. Math just isn't my thing. I'm so bad at math."

I happen to know that my student is doing very well in my class, has insightful answers, and scored a 30-something on the math part of the ACT (which, I believe would be a 700-something on the math SAT).
