What Is Your Problem?

Yesterday I emailed every one of my calculus students who scored a C- or lower on the exam or who has a C- or lower total average. I told them that I'm concerned about their progress in calculus. I asked if there was anything that we could do to help them get caught up.

Many have repsonded.

1. Student who has taken none of the weekly quizzes, has a very low WebAssign average, and who failed the exam: I got the flu two days before the exam, so I couldn't study as much as I would have wanted to.


2. Student with low scores across the board: Are other people doing this badly, too?


3. Student with a mix of high and low scores: [Details redacted (for student's privacy) of a verifiable tale of woe of such duration and seriousness that I'm pretty sure that this student would gladly trade places with someone whose worst problem is the flu.]
