More from the Enforcement Files

I emailed the students in College Algebra and Precalc and told them about our one-credit hour helper class. You know, the one that I was trying to decide if it helps (and decided that it does help some students somewhat). Since it does help (to some extent) we're pushing it for the spring because most of the students in these classes during the spring are the ones who failed in the fall, and they need all the help they can get.

I'm getting emails back from these students asking if they really need algebra help. They also tell me that they can't really fit in another credit hour because they're maxed out for hours and working full time. Then I go and check their records and discover that they had final exam scores of 21 and 37 and such from the fall. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I'm very excited about my newly-acquired abilities to conjure meaning from data, so one of my questions for the spring will be to look at the population of students re-taking these courses and see whether there is a difference in spring success rate between the students who failed in the fall and the ones who epic failed.
