Not My Idea of Fun
Recently I was talking to a friend of mine about my plans for today, and I mentioned that I was going to a baby shower. He correctly assumed that a baby shower is not my idea of fun.
Of note:
Of note:
- The baby is a girl. The parents registered at Babies-R-Us, Target, and Amazon.com. I was the only person at the shower who bought books for the baby. I bought the baby the book about trucks that was on the registry (and two other books from the registry, too). The mom-to-be specifically thanked me for that choice because she thought that no one would buy her daughter the book about trucks.
- First activity at the shower was to fill out a page of scrapbook paper with emotional and inspiring words of wisdom. This may very well combine all the things that I hate about female-identified activities. I hate scrapbooking. I hate sentimentality. I don't talk about emotions. Well, at least not emotions other than irritation and exasperation.
- Just about everyone had a camera out. I'm not one of those people who photographs events and then looks back at the photos later. The #1 reason why I take a photo of anything is because I want to document it for Twitter or my blog.
- The only game I was halfway good at was the name-scattergories one. We had to think of girl names beginning with a specific letter but that no one else would think of. Names like "Tamar" and "Tovah" were not on the other guests' radar.
- The salmon dip (from the fancy food store) and the chocolate truffle cake were delicious.
