Subfloor? I Hardly Know Her!

We don't need no steenkin' subfloor. (This is in response to a question about my subfloor in a comment on my kitchen.)

In most of the house the pine is nailed directly to the floor joists. In the kitchen, there is a layer of plywood nailed on top of the pine and then the ridiculous vinyl tiles stuck over the plywood.

The other thing about my pine floors is that the floorboards are crazy long. Much longer than modern lumber. In the bedroom and the guest room (sewing room), the floorboards go all the way across the room (no "seams"). One of the pine floor boards in the hallway is 13' 8" (417 cm) long.
